STEPS TO TAKE TO BECOME A MEMBER OF
Coastal Therapy Dogs, Inc
To become a Coastal Therapy Dogs, Inc Member, you need to:
- Pass the Control Evaluation – Evaluation must be administered by a Certified Behaviorist, Certified Dog Trainer, Certified Obedience Instructor, or AKC approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
- Complete 10 hours of supervised visits – Each visit should be a minium of one hour, with at least five visits with the same person. A maximum of one visit per day will be counted toward becoming a member. If there aren't any experienced CTD members in your area, we do occasionally accept visit supervisions by other than an CTD member-such as an Activities Director at a nursing home--but that person does need to understand the responsibilities of mentoring, such as staying with the therapy team the entire visit and observing that the owner has good control of her dog.
- Submit your completed CTD Visit Evaluation form – Form is to be completed by the person who observed at least five of the ten visits.
- Send in the Membership Application – The Membership Application Checklist is a very helpful form to download.
